Proper site layout
Home -- Building -- HTML Programming -- Proper site layout
Laying out your site to give it a clean, professional look is the most important thing you can do when programming your website. With a proper site layout your visitors will be able to find things easily, and navigate your website with ease. Before you type a single line of code for your site I suggest creating two items. Get a piece of paper and pencil and create a flowchart for your website. Write down which pages will link to each other and have it handy to make our programming easier.
Also draw what you want your basic site layout to look like. Create places where you would like your navingtion bar, your advertisiments, your body text and so on. You'll find it much easier to program and create your site with these on hand. Take a look at popular websites and see how they've constructed their sites so that everything is made easy for visitors to find.
Lastly, visit a site called Websites That Suck. This website is full of pages that have major design flaws and shows you how to avoid them. It also gives tips on how to fix any design flaws that your site may have.
