META Tags
Home -- Promoting -- Search Engine Promotion -- META Tags
META Tags are HTML tags that are placed in the Header portion of your HTML. These tags will be used by the search engines to retrieve a description that will appear in your search engine listing. There are two basic META tags that should appear on every page of your website. They are a keyword META tag and a description META tag. You should place them in your HTML right after your title.
The description META tag can be formatted as follows:
META name="description" content="Place the description of your website here" - Remember to place the proper bracket around the tag.
The keyword META tag can be formatted as follows:
META name="keywords" content="keyword1, keyword2, keyword3" - Remember to place the proper bracket around the tag.
The description tag should be about eight to ten words giving a brief, but enticing description of your site. Remember this is what will appear in your search engine listings. The keyword tag should have about 7 to 9 keywords or keywords phrases that describe the page of your site. Try to focus on one or two keywords per each page of your website. If you really want your META tags to have an impact on your search engine ranking I strongly suggest trying out WebPosition's Search Engine Optimization Software. This will help you create great META tags that focus on a certain keyword for each page of your site.
