If you've been promoting your site through the search engines you've probably heard of doorway pages. What exactly is a doorway page? Some opinions vary, but I consider a doorway page any page that will lead to your home page. Doorway pages have been getting a bad rap lately because many webmasters having resorted to certain tricks that the search engines do not approve of.
For instance, some webmasters generate pages with the same exact content except a few keywords are changed on each page. Or they try to "keyword stuff" by making the text on certain pages the same color as the background. Some simply have pages that repeat a keyword one hundred times. Definitely avoid these methods as they can get you banned by the search engines and also make your site look unprofessional.
Take this approach when making your doorway pages. Every page, not just your home page on your site can get ranked high in the search engines. Make sure every page on your site has a descriptive title and description META tag. Use keywords that you think people would use to look for this page on your site in the title and description. Search egnines place a very heavy emphasis on the title tag on your site. You'll be amazed to find that not only will people find your home page in the engines, but you'll get residual traffic from all the pages on your site.
